Round one action in Premier League Football was played on Saturday with Armidale teams a little rusty for their season openers.
With the new format to the competition Glen Innes Highlanders came into the Northern Conference competition for the first time and took on a determined Demon Knights outfit at Rologas Fields in Armidale. If Glen Innes had any advantage it was the unknown quantity of their game that kept the final score to a 3-all draw. The quality of the football was strong in the high scoring affair with DK, now fully aware of the quality of the Highlanders game.
South Armidale lost to Joeys FC 2-1 at the Armidale Sportsground and in the other games East Armidale United lost to competition debutants Guyra United 3-1.
In Southern Conference games Oxley Vale Attunga defeated Wee Waa United Football Club 4-0, Tamworth FC defeated Moree Football Club 4-2, North Companions drew with Narrabri Cougars 1 all and Gunnedah United defeated Imperials 1-0.
This Saturday in the Northern Conference East Armidale United are home at Doody Park to South Armidale United, Demon Knights travel to Inverell to tackle Joeys FC and North Armidale United play their first game of the season at Phil Wheaton Oval hosting Guyra United.
