Albies play into form

A DOMINANT performance in the first half secured St Albert’s College win over Robb College 36-12 in round 13 of the New England Rugby Union competition at Bellevue Oval on Saturday.

Albies put on 22 unanswered points in the first half scoring three tries and displaying the trademark running rugby for which Albies are known.
Coach Tom Newsom was pleased with his side’s first half performance considering the team had played little rugby leading up to the game due to uni holidays.
In the second half, Albies’ lack of match fitness started to show and Robb were able to score 12 points however Albies still managed to keep the game well and truly in their grasp to secure the win.
“We have an exceptional forward pack that worked hard for us on Saturday,” Newsom said.
“Our set pieces and our line-out were very solid setting up some great opportunities for our backs.”
Albies are firing this year in the competition with an experienced side hitting the paddock every week. They sit one point clear of the Armidale Blues on top of the ladder who they will play this Saturday at Moran Oval.
“We have a mixture of experience and talent in the side this year that is making for some great rugby, with the boys gelling well as a team,” he said.
“The Armidale Blues are the other form team in the competition with some great players who are a fair bit older than our boys.
“It is a bit of a case of boys playing men but we will stick to our game plan for next Saturday’s game which should put the Blues under some pressure.”
