Watkins Shield win for New England

NEW England regained the Watkins Shield at the zone round robin played in Moree on the weekend winning five of their six matches played. Barwon finished second with Central North third. Chris Kliendienst, John McIlwain, Gavin Latham and Col Stanley won all three 12 end matches to finish plus 14 while Todd Fuller, Dale Smith, Glen Graham and Brodie Dexter won two and lost one to finish plus 10.
At the completion of play on Sunday morning the zone selectors announced the following four teams for the state finals at Blacktown from 6 to 8 September. Chris Herden, Rod Dixon, Rex Skuthorpe, Stewart Bayliss, Todd Fuller, Clayton Rogers, Dave Samuelson, Glen Graham, Nick Golledge, Graham Spence, Don Morgan, Tim Anderson, Scott Hamilton, Chris Kliendienst, Paul Hulbert and Darren Hungerford.

Walcha winners
CONGRATULATIONS to the following winners at Walcha this year. The club singles winner is Kyle Goodwin, the pairs went to Owen Kuhr and Fred Cameron, the triples to Brian Lockyer, Owen Kuhr and Jim Clare and the fours to Steve Goodwin, Gordon Bird, Nathan Goodwin and Pat Morris. The singles and pairs winners will now go the champion of champion play-offs. Joining them in the singles will be City’s Todd Fuller, Ex-Services Mal Ahoy and Uralla’s Peter Leggatt.
The pairs winners advised to date are Todd and Steve Fuller at City, Mike Ahoy and Paul Bullen at Ex-Services and Peter Leggatt and Damian Kliendienst from Uralla.
If other clubs have completed their events they must notify the district immediately. It should also be noted by players that they must have their membership fees paid prior to these events.

Junior pairs at Warilla
IN the state junior pairs at Warilla last week Justin Bullen and Jack Whitton reached the semi-final only to lose 20-12 to the eventual winners. This was a really great effort as both players are not able to spend time on the greens due to work, school and other sports.
Entries in this year’s Rookies have closed and the draw will be carried out by the Royal and players will be advised asap. With the field for the City club’s BCIB major/minor pairs on 27-28 July full the club has released details of their annual Coca Cola major/minor pairs on Saturday 14 September. Clubs will receive details in the near future.

Zone 3 meeting at Moree
AT the zone 3 meeting at Moree, delegates were advised regarding the proposed alterations to the bowls magazine and the proposed changes to boundaries for zones and districts are also under review.
A meeting will be held at Barabra on 19 October to discuss the format for 2014 pennants and it is imperative that New England representatives attend.
