Armidale Women’s Bowling Club held their very successful Spring Blossoms Carnival last weekend with 22 teams participating in the two-day carnival.
President Beryl Sloggett and Acting CEO Patrick Crick welcomed the bowlers and invited all to morning tea in the Auditorium. Unfortunately, showers greeted the players when they left the clubhouse for the first game and raincoats were quickly donned but, after a few ends, the showers subsided and raincoats were discarded.
Fine weather prevailed for the remainder of the carnival and Sunday was a lovely day for bowls, much to everyone’s delight. Participants received morning tea and lunch each day and a BBQ tea on Sunday night, followed by presentations.
Winners of the Carnival were a composite team from Armidale with 4 wins + 93: D Fuller, D O’Connell, L Radlingmayr, P Light; second a team from Wingham with 4 wins + 92: M Yarnold, J Montague, V Neeson, L Cross; third was a team from Taree Railway with 4 wins + 91: L Sky, D Bakerston, E Toothy, M Borham; fourth was a team from South Tamworth with 3 wins, 1 draw + 78: I Easey, F Hunt, J Northey, S Otte; fifth was a team from Asquith with 3 wins, 1 loss + 78: V Fabian, J Bennett, H Robertson, V Henderson; sixth was a team from Sunnybank, Qld, with 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss + 71: M South, E Crawford, B Goynich, H Dillon. Consolation awards were presented to W Kirby, J Scott, P Body, J Mangan, J Carter, B Charter, D Moloney, J Callaghan and these awards were sponsored by David Hodgson Chemist.
President Beryl thanked the carnival committee, all the workers and helpers including Bruce and John, Kevin and his catering staff, the bar staff, games manager Mike Sherar, umpire Bob, the Club Ltd, Jill Morson running the 100 club, Warwick and his ground staff for doing such a great job after receiving an inch of rain on Friday night; and to all the teams who attended and travelled so far and who promised to come back next year. After singing the National Anthem, the carnival was closed.
