Casino trainers claimed the two top races at Armidale Greyhounds final day of the three-weekend 2013 Cup Carnival on Saturday.
Torri Northfield’s greyhound Proper Lilly starting from Box 1 showed her rivals a clean pair of heels to win the 520m Cup. Second placing went to Glenreagh Magic from Box 2, with Noir Lee from Box 3 third. Both minor placegetters were trained by Garry Streakfield from Glenreagh near Grafton.
“She really improved from last week, she balked a bit in the race last week at the two bridges, so this was a terrific result,” said Torri, speaking of Proper Lilly’s win.
“Early in her career she had a few injuries but right at the moment she has hit a purple patch. She has only had about seven or eight wins but it is early days in her racing.”
The 440m final was quinellad by Charles Northfield, the winner being Knocker Jess from Box 1 and Kingsbrae Knocker, Box 3; third was Keira’s Charm.
Verona Wilson continues her winning run with a double Karamera Box 7, Race 1 and My Son John, Box 8, Race 5. My Son John has now made it two in a row on the track. Other winners on the day again came from visiting trainers.
Club President Garry Carson, during the Cup Presentation speech, thanked all sponsors, owners, trainers and patrons, along with the hard working committee for the part they play in making race day and carnivals possible.
“This was the final in three days of our carnival and it has gone very well,” said Garry Carson.
“I think the best dog won the top race today.”
The club will now break until Saturday, March 23.
