Ahead of the times

THE Armidale Amateur Swimming Club had a small contingent of six swimmers take part in the New England North West Short Course Area Swimming Championships held at the TAS pool earlier this month. All swimmers performed exceptionally well with all making at least one personal best time.

Charlie Selby starred in his favourite breaststroke events winning both the 10 years boys 50m and 100m. He also won bronze in the 10 years boys 50m freestyle and 200m individual medley events.
Lilly Ridges was named runner-up nine years girl champion with gold medals for the 50m and 100m freestyle events, the 50m breaststroke and the 200m individual medley along with bronze in the 50m butterfly.
Emma Gray came away with two silver medals and a bronze from the eight years girls backstroke, butterfly and freestyle events and took an incredible six seconds off her 50m breaststroke personal best.
Amy Kerr set personal best times in all five of her events, smashing 5.5 seconds off her 100m freestyle time to finish second in the 12 years girls event. Amy was also second in the 50m freestyle and third in the 50m butterfly.
Chloe Gray took three seconds off her 50m backstroke personal best and finished in the top eight finalists for the 10 years girls for 50m and 100m breaststroke and the 100m freestyle.
Emily Selby also received finalist ribbons for several of her events and took three seconds from both her 13 years girls 50m backstroke and 100m freestyle times.
To round off the successful carnival, Charlie, Emma, Chloe and Lilly combined to finish third in the 10 years and under 200m freestyle relay.
The Armidale Amateur Swimming Club would like to thank the New England North West carnival organisers for running such a smooth and well managed carnival.
