NSW Country juniors selected

New England Bowls With Richie Clutterbuck

CONGRATULATIONS to both Justin Bullen (Ex-Services) and Jack Whitton (City) who have been selected to represent NSW Country juniors against NSW City at Cabramatta on 23-24 November. Their selection is a reward for outstanding play in the seven-a-side matches at Port Macquarie held recently. The zone three teams performed excellently and defeated the strong zone 12 team in a play-off for third place in the state. I spoke to the junior state selector at Cabramatta last week and he was very impressed with both Jack and Justin. I have followed their progress for some years and have always been of the opinion that they will have a big future in the game.
Champion of champions
The rain on Saturday prevented the champion of champion pair’s matches being completed, however with good weather on Sunday matches are out to the final. In first round matches, Chris Kliendienst and Dan Kennedy defeated Terry Hooper and Dennis Williams 27-18 and Owen Kuhr and Fred Cameron defeated Mike Ahoy and Palk Bullen 19-15. Semi-final winners were Steve and Todd Fuller 19-9 over Peter Leggatt and Damien Kliendienst and Dan Kennedy and Chris Kliendienst 26 defeated Owen and Fred 26-9. Players have agreed to play the final at Guyra at 9am on Saturday.
United Hospital Auxiliary annual charity bowls afternoon
The Armidale Branch of the United Hospital Auxiliary will be holding their annual charity bowls afternoon on Monday 16 September at the City club. For an entry fee of $5 players will enjoy a sausage sizzle and a great afternoon on the greens. We all know what this organisation does towards supplying vital equipment to the hospital so let’s support the day. If you are unable to play then go down to the club during the day and support the various raffles etc.
The Ex-Services club had released details of their Spring Triples Carnival and this is set down for 28-29 September. Three games of 14 ends will be played on the first day and two on the second. Winners will be decided on games won and ends won. As the event is restricted to 14 teams then I suggest you contact the club or Paul Bullen soon. Teams entered in the major minor pairs at City on 14 September can check the noticeboard at the club to confirm their nominations. One spot remains as at last Saturday afternoon.
