Just days after winning the Tweed Shire Council Australia Day Award for the Community Event of the Year for “The Power of Pink Dressage” The Tweed Valley Equestrian Group has now been advised after being nominated for the 2011 Equestrian Queensland Awards, that “The Power of Pink Dressage” is one of the finalists in the “Event of the Year” category.
This award recognises an event conducted in Queensland during 2011 that has provided a significant impact on community values, awareness of the sport and/or significant economic values. (As the group is so close to the border it comes under Equestrian Qld )
The Tweed Valley Equestrian Group is very excited to be among the finalists for this award, especially for Keighley Leeson who suggested this event would be a worthy cause to become involved with. Keighley has worked tirelessly putting it all together. It is a huge task to run an equestrian event, with much time approaching sponsors and to have a great result. A $500 donation from the Southcoast Automotive Group was a tremendous start, followed then by many local businesses.
Riders came from as far as Port Macquarie through to Brisbane and didn’t they dress for the occasion – pink costumes, pink horses, and even pink dogs. The riders didn’t only have to look good in pink but they also had to ride their nominated dressage tests. It was then appropriate to have many pink prizes, major prizes being pink rugs for the winners in each category. The Murwillumbah Showground was on this day flooded with pink.
Four members from the Tweed Valley Equestrian Group, Keighley Leeson, Kim Jackson, Sasha Peterson and Judy Cartwright will be proudly representing the group at a prestigious dinner to be held at the Park Royal Hotel in Brisbane on Saturday the 25th Febuary where the winners will be announced.
