Last week I had the river to myself almost, this week, what a difference, there were boats everywhere, mostly going out to sea around 9am, then it got worse. I was fishing the blue hole and I noticed an unusual amount of boat traffic going out past me, two maritime boats, three cruise boats, fisheries, along with a heap of different leisure craft.
The weather guys had predicted strong winds but that didn’t happen and that’s why I saw so many boats heading out around 10ish – don’t know how they went, but it was a lovely day, so who cares if they caught fish or not. I discovered that there was some kind of skiing competition going on from Fingal boat ramp to Mar-bah, the whole river was blocked off. There is the final of a bream competition on in a few weeks so the rest of the river was filled with recreation fishos and pros, it was pretty messy but interesting to watch. I think I like the bad weather when everyone stays in bed and I have the place to myself.
Also the Tweed River Rowing Club had a little market going both days to raise some money, I got called in to the sausage stand and had a good snag, but the fishing was hard work again, the weather was great, the water so clear I think I should take up snorkeling as I’m sure in this clear water the fish just look at me thinking ‘what are you up to mate?’ and take off.
I fished the jew hole early Saturday morning with Craig Costigan and again perfect conditions but no fish.
Cheers!
