Uralla cowboy wins open bull ride

The annual Armidale Four Seasons Rodeo was held over the weekend, incorporating the Australian Bushman’s Campdraft and Rodeo Association’s National Championships. The crowd numbered between two and three thousand. The calibre of competitors and livestock was considered first-rate, with a full spectrum of events staged throughout the two days.
The pinnacle event was the open bull ride and it was won by Uralla cowboy, Duncan Elks. The Four Seasons Rodeo Committee member was last and best ride on Saturday night. He comfortably held on for the eight seconds, scoring 87 points on a bull named ‘Outback Storm’.
Events included Steer Wrestling, Ladies’ Barrel Race, Ladies’ Steer Undecorating, Junior Steer Ride, Calf Roping. Team Roping, Bareback Bronc Riding, Bull Riding and Saddle Bronc Rides.
Girl-power showed the boys up in the Robb College v St Albert’s College footballers’ steer ride competition. Most failed to last eight seconds and get a score.
President of the Armidale Four Seasons Rodeo Association, Nick Rice, said that the event takes a lot of organising for a small committee and he gratefully acknowledged the support of local businesses.
Duncan Elks has already experienced the rodeo circuit in the US during a three-month stint and aims to return for a tour. Meanwhile, he has a string of events lined up in preparation for the ABCRA National Finals Rodeo during the Tamworth Country Music Festival and he hopes to claim that title.
