Juniors rule the courts

Tweed Tennis By Peter Luc

TWEED’s Under 14 boys have dominated the final round of the Medibank Junior Tennis Development Series held at Lismore earlier this month.

Tweed District filled six of the top eight positions in the under-14 boys with Pottsville Sonic’s Louis Clark winning his fifth final of the series from Alex Riddel (Banora) who fought his way from an un-seeded pool to knock off seeded players and make his first final.
Patrick Myles (Sonic) finished third beating Brody Luc (Terranora) in a third versus fourth play-off. Gillon Preston and Ethan Bruggy (both Murwillumbah) continued to improve having another quarter final result.
In all, 21 Tweed District juniors headed down to the event with 18 making the finals and three finishing third in their un-seeded pools (top two in un-seeded pools go through). An outstanding effort from all juniors.
In the under-10 boys, Lincoln Taylor (Murwillumbah) made it to his first finals play-offs, getting to the quarter finals.
The under-12 boys saw Tweed District take home the podium positions with Flyn Schieb (Sonic) taking out his first win after five runner-up trophies. Brandon Stockwell (Tweed) finished runner-up with Ethan Horner (Murwillumbah) in third. Jamie Krause (Tweed), Jacob Pedlow (Sonic), Harrison Smith (Murwillumbah) made the quarter finals with James Bagnall (Murwillumbah) getting to the round 16 play-off and Abhay Reissenberger (Murwillumbah) finishing third in his pool.
The under-16 boys saw Will Bagnall (Murwillumbah) continued his impressive form making it to his second final of the series and finishing runner-up. James Rea (Tweed) was unbeaten in the pool matches before falling in the semi-final to series leader and eventual winner Jaykob Rowe (Casino). Lachlan Henderson (Murwillumbah) made it consecutive finals play-offs getting to the quarter finals.
The under-10 girls saw Alice McDougall (Kingscliff) finish third in her pool and in the under-12 Girls, Montana Taylor and Ena Mitchell (both Murwillumbah) both needed to score good series points to make the top eight and played so well with Montana making it to the quarter finals and Ena finishing third in her pool. Both girls scored enough points to finish seventh and eighth in the series and go on to the next level.
Well done to Flyn Schieb under-12 boys and Louis Clark under-14 boys. Both boys play for Sonic Pottsville and both finished top of their age group at the end of the eight round series. A wonderful achievement.
The next stage is the Champion of Champions event at Grafton on 27-28 July where the top eight in each age group from Upper North East NSW play the top eight from Lower North East NSW.
