By HELEN RIGNEY – TWEED ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT
WELL Tweed Netball Association has now been included in the history of State Events for Netball Queensland.
Last weekend saw about 4500 people attend the Queensland Challenge Carnival – including 152 teams competing in the event.
It was an honour to host this competition. It was the first time that a State Event for Netball Queensland had ever been held south of the border.
To host such an event, takes a lot of time and dedication from not only the executive at Tweed but from our clubs. All clubs were extremely generous with their volunteers, who all worked tirelessly the whole weekend, and our association is thankful for all the help given.
We were pretty much inundated with compliments from how friendly and helpful our association volunteers were and how clean the whole complex was. I must admit the clubs on rubbish control (Kingscliff Netball Club) and toilet duty (Seagulls) were to be commended for their efforts.
Out in the carpark, Cudgen kept the cars rolling through and parked in such meticulous order that we could fit as many cars as possible into the oval.
On the barbecue, the burgers were cooked to perfection by the volunteers from Sharpshooters, Infernos and Terranora. The volunteers from the Saints club made sure that all visitors adhered to the rules of conduct and crowd control.
We are all just that much fatter for the beautiful cakes and slices served over the weekend from the Lindisfarne volunteers. Also thank you to our Rep players who conducted the Rep Fun Hub over the weekend.
A big thank you to the hard work put in leading up to and over the weekend from Brad Hartley (Kingscliff), Steve and Gayle Rust who gave up a lot of their time to ensure that tents and equipment were all on hand for the weekend. Also thank you to Kevin Maloney who put some finishing touches to the inside of clubhouse to give it a fresh look.
Netball will resume this weekend for all clubs and then we are off for the school holidays. The general meeting scheduled for this Wednesday (State of Origin) has been moved to this Saturday from 8.30am at the clubhouse..
