Fishing on the Tweed By David Solano
WHAT a fantastic weekend it turned out to be for me, with this beautiful weather and great fishing.
On Saturday I headed to the jew hole at 3.30 am and arrived around 4.30 am and I had the place to myself, it was still dark but with an almost full moon I could see what I was doing.
It took one cast to try and figure out what the current was doing then Bang it was on for young and old as with my next four casts I caught fish, all nice schoolies around the 65cm mark.
These fish were a lot of fun and I caught them with my new rod and reel with 4lb leader. The new rod is a ‘nordic stage’ and the reel a shimano stella 1000.
That’s where all the fun is catching decent fish on really light gear.
Saturday after fishing I went along to NSW Fisheries Education Officer ‘Milan’s’ fishing education day at the boat ramp on Kennedy Drive.
I had a chat to the kids for a while, it was just good to see all these keen kids wanting to fish. There must have been around thirty of them, it was funny when I’d stopped talking on e of the lads grabbed my rod and proceeded to catch a flathead right there in front of everyone, well done there mate.
Milan taught the kids fish identification, knots, casting, safety, catch and release which is very important if we want to fish in the future, ie I only kept one of those fish I’d caught earlier and I rang my parents up to see if they wanted it (which of course they did) otherwise it would have been released too with the others. Cheers.
