An unusual alliance of hardware, sport and music is providing opportunities for the youth of the Tweed.
Terranora Tennis Club have been using Bunnings Hardware BBQs to help finance their junior tennis activities, with the juniors assisting on the day.
Several “club families” have children who are in the Bilambil School choirs that came 1st and 3rd in the recent Northern Rivers Murwillumbah Festival of Arts, under the guidance of instructor Donna McGlinn.
With limited opportunities to progress their talents playing to an audience, the children were performing at nursing homes and similar venues, much to the delight of those present at the time.
Tennis club stalwart, Joan Nicoll, subsequently approached Bunnings about including a rendition from the school choir with the junior tennis BBQ.
“Bunnings BBQ coordinators Lisa Hockin and John McIntosh were most supportive,” Joan said.
“They provided the suitable space and even installed a power outlet for background music.
“More than a 100 spectators enjoyed every minute of the entertainment.”
Mrs McGlinn said that performing to larger audiences was an important phase in the development of the school’s music program which has recently expanded to include a guitar group, which is very popular with the boys.
