Local feel, super clinic

Three of the Tweed’s best-known GPs have been announced as the preferred applicants for the region’s new state-of-the-art GP Super Clinic health facility.
Doctors Diane Blanckensee, Austin Stern and Jennifer Soden working under the bid name Ausjendia  (a combination  of their first names) Pty Ltd have entered into discussions with the Department of Health and Ageing to finally bring the $7 million clinic to fruition. Locations and timelines will be discussed as the project moves forward.
The trio thanked the support of the general public for getting them and the project this far.
Federal Minister for Health and Ageing, Nicola Roxon, and Member for Richmond, Justine Elliot, both welcomed the news for the Tweed Heads community and broader region.
Minister Roxon said the Government wanted to make it easier for all Australian to see and contact a doctor closer to home and the beginning of negotiations between the Department of Health and Ageing and Ausjendia Pty Ltd brings the Tweed Heads GP Super Clinic nearer.
The clinic will look to provide integrated multidisciplinary health-care for patients, all under one roof, from GPs to nurses, psychologists, podiatrists and dieticians.
“This new GP Super Clinic will deliver more doctors, more nurses, more allied health professionals and better access to health services for locals,” Minister Roxon said.
Member for Richmond Justine Elliot said the Tweed Heads Super Clinic would provide integrated team-based care for the local community, with patients able to visit a variety of healthcare services in one location.
“The GP Super Clinic will provide much needed medical infrastructure and services in a community that is set to be one of the fastest growing regions in the State,” Justine said.
“It is expected that the clinic will include general practice, nurses, and allied health specialists with a strong emphasis on chronic disease care.
“It will focus on training and education for medical, nursing and allied health students and will be a major site for GP registrar training.”
The applicant was short listed following a competitive, invitation-to-apply  process. Successful negotiations will lead to a funding agreement.
