Skipping is an old playground favourite — and for Junior School students at The Armidale School, it was a fun and healthy way to raise more than $5000 for the Heart Foundation.
Participating in the Jump for Heart program, boys and girls from Transition to Year 5 were excited that their $3000 goal leapt to an outstanding $5385 with every swing of the rope.
Junior School first took part in Jump for Heart four years ago when the program sought to break a Guinness Book of Records listing for the biggest number of children skipping at the same time.
While some used every spare minute at recess and lunchtimes skipping, others sought donations from parents and friends willing to support a good cause.
“The top fundraiser was Tom Jarvis with a total of $440, which was a large part of the Year 5 class total of $1627,” teacher and sports coordinator Kirsty Brunsdon said.
“It was just wonderful to see the students step up and take on this leadership role to support this great fundraiser and they are all to be congratulated.”
Since the inception of Heart Foundation Jump Rope for Heart over 28 years ago, more than 90 per cent of all Australian schools, involving eight million school children, have participated. This year more than 400,000 students in over 2000 schools raised more than $710,000 for the cause.
