Seeing Pink project

By TANIA PHILLIPS

FUND-raising continues for Gold Coaster Dr Geoff Wilson’s Pink Polar Expedition with Geoff and his “Boob Sled” heading to Saltbar on 16 August.

Dr Geoff, a Gold Coast vet, will be crossing Antarctica later this year to challenge himself, promote breast awareness and hopefully raise a million for the McGrath Foundation.
He will be joined by former collegue Kate Carlyle, a journalist and two-time breast cancer survivor at the Pink Polar Expedition Fund-raising Luncheon at Saltbar Beachbar and Bistro. This time the duo, who were part of an inspirational Pink Day at the Kirra Sports Club earlier this year, will be joined by McGrath Foundation Ambassador Tracy Bevan.
It will be a chance to enjoy a fashion parade by Sunburn and entertainment by Mandy Nolan as well as fund-raising fun and a buffet lunch.
More than that it is a chance to hear Kate’s inspirational story and how it inspired her friend and former radio colleague to take on the Pink Polar Expedition.
Tracy Bevan, McGrath Foundation Ambassador and Director, said the McGrath Foundation has been encouraged by the support from this event, which goes a long way to help ensure every family in Australia experiencing breast cancer has access to a breast care nurse.
“We are proud to have 84 McGrath Breast Care Nurses working nationally who together have supported over 20,000 Australian families experiencing breast cancer. Events like this are truly helping us to make a difference,” Tracy said.
The McGrath Foundation aims to fund 150 McGrath Breast Care Nurses nationally.
