Tweed talent on display

By TANIA PHILLIPS

THE artistic talent of the Tweed was on show at the Tweed Heads Civic Centre last weekend for the eighth annual Tweed Heads South Rotary Club Art Show.

This year was the biggest in the event’s history with 149 paintings of all genres from artists of all ages as well as displays from the Tweed Heads Wood Crafters Association and ceramics from Tweed Arts Unlimited.
“”There is a lot of talent in the Tweed,” Tweed Heads South Rotary Club president, Cr Warren Polglase said as he walked through the display during the opening night on Friday.
“Most of the artists that have taken part in the show are from the Tweed and Southern Gold Coast. This is our eighth year and our biggest and the quality of the art is improving with every year.”
He said the club was very proud to be “giving local artists a chance to have their work shown to the local community.”
As well as the paintings, there were 120 woodcrafted items on display – everything from carved bowls to beautiful handcrafted furniture.
It was the second year that the Tweed Heads Woodcrafters Association had combined their display with the art gallery while for the first time the Tweed Arts Unlimited potters joined the display.
