Allstars training for Cudgen League

Rugby League fans are in for a treat this week on the Tweed Coast with the Indigenous All Stars heading to Cudgen Leagues Club to train ahead of this weekend’s match against the NRL Allstars at Skilled Stadium, Robina.
The group will train from 9-11am every morning at Ned Burn Oval, Kingscliff in preparation for the game.
The last minute move south (with the All Stars originally being set to train further up the coast) is a bonus for the Cudgen Hornets according to Hornets coach and former NRL star Craig Field.
“That’s the new look Hornets,” Field joked as the Allstars, coached by Laurie Daley and managed by Tweed’s Larry Corowa, went through their paces on Tuesday morning.
“Seriously it’s quite a coup for us. People are starting to take notice of where we are and what facilities we have.
“I’d love to have the team down here (to watch), but we only just found out. There were a few late night phonecalls last night.”
He said he would have his coaching staff down watching training over the next few days to get some ideas for new
training drills.
“This is definitely good for both the club and the community,” he said.
The move of the Indigenous team to Cudgen comes at a good time for the local club which is gearing up to make its debut in the Gold Coast Rugby League competition in March.
Field said the club, which will add 17s to their ranks this year, was still looking for players and had sponsorship packages still available too.
