SES in action

With more than 300 call outs over the past week – the local SES has had a busy time of it.
Tweed SES Local Controller Brian Sheahan said the teams had now stood down after being kept busy around the Tweed Coast and Murwillumbah.
“It has been a very busy time,” he admitted.
He said they had eight teams in action, including a few from out of the area as well as members of the local RFS.
Mr Sheahan, who praised his volunteers for their efforts, said unfortunately they had to be called out to several rescues where people had driven into flood waters.
“We had a number of incidents in Murwillumbah and Tweed,” he said.
“The SES advocate that you shouldn’t drive, swim or walk through flood waters.”
He said there was not only a chance of getting washed away but also a big chance of picking up water-borne viruses.
“But I’m very pleased with our volunteers they did very well – working extremely long hours.”
