Website tells where spending dollars go

Local business, Waterfall Way Designs, is one of three NSW community groups that have won $2000 in the Local Government and Shires Association of NSW (LGSA) Empowering Communities competition.
The competition, run by the LGSA and sponsors Essential Energy, offered three awards of $2000 to residents, community groups and businesses to put towards a project or service that would make a difference to their local council area.
Armidale Dumaresq Council’s mayor, Peter Ducat, joined Essential Energy’s manager community relations, David Crough, to congratulate David and Alanna Carse from Waterfall Way Designs on his Buy Local Marketplace website.
Waterfall Way Designs owner, David Carse, said he was excited to receive the funding and that the money would be used to pay for a staff member to assist local businesses in understanding the process and submitting a directory listing.
The Buy Local Marketplace is an online business directory for local buying where businesses create a free listing for themselves; and consumers are then educated about where their spending dollars go in the local community.
Mayor Ducat said the Buy Local Marketplace was a great example of how an idea could empower Armidale and the New England area.
“The website will encourage people to shop locally and anything which does this is good for the local economy and benefits everyone in the community,” Peter said.
“I thank the LGSA, Essential Energy and Waterfall Way Designs for making this initiative possible.”
