The petition being circulated supporting funding for the major upgrade of the Armidale Hospital needs another 1,000 signatures to reach the target of 10,000.
Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay is reminding those people who may not have yet signed the petition to consider adding their support to the campaign.
“The response so far has been great and I thank all those people who have signed their names to this petition and especially that small group of community members who have taken it upon themselves to collect signatures,” Mr Torbay said.
“The additional signatures being collected by those people as well as the New England Mutual and Council offices have been central to reaching our target of 10,000 signatures.
“So far, in just over one month I have received at my Electorate office 2,045 petitions containing 9,187 signatures – a great effort from the community.
“However, we need a total of 10,000 signatures to trigger debate in the Legislative Assembly next year, so I ask those people who haven’t signed to do so in the next few weeks.
“Once we reach the target I will be able to present the petition to the Speaker and it would be terrific if I was able to do that on the first day of Parliament – February 14, 2012.
“The petition can be found at the New England Mutual, your local Council office, the Electorate office in Rusden Street, or simply ring my office and leave a message asking to have a copy emailed, faxed or posted directly to you.
“I thank all those people who have added their support to this important campaign.”
