Tributes have been flowing for The Mayor of Armidale Dumaresq Council (ADC) Cr Peter Ducat who has announced that he will not be contesting for a local government councillor’s role at the next elections in September.
Cr Ducat has been an ADC Councillor since 2000. He was the Deputy Mayor from 2001 to 2005 and has been Mayor of ADC since 2005. Cr Ducat is the second longest serving Mayor in the Armidale Dumaresq local government area, after the Mayor of the Dumaresq Shire Donald Cameron MBE who served from 1957 to 1974.
A prominent Armidale business owner, Cr Peter Ducat is a foundation member of Armidale Duval Lions Club and an Honorary member of Armidale Central Rotary Club.
He has expressed his views on what he believes is a sound future for Armidale.
“I believe that Armidale benefits greatly from our education base and the influence that community has on our cultural richness and prosperity. For a balanced growing economy, we need to welcome industry too,” said Cr Ducat.
In expressing his opinion about being the Mayor of ADC, Cr Ducat said he enjoyed the opportunities to meet people, and be involved with people and issues he wouldn’t normally be involved with.
Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay has paid tribute to Armidale Dumaresq Mayor Peter Ducat for his many years of devoted service to the local community.
“Peter has always been a very generous member of the local community,” Mr Torbay said.
“He is well regarded for the contribution he has made over many years, not only to Council, but to many community groups and organisations.”
Mr Torbay said Mayor Ducat’s wife Colleen had also made a strong contribution to the community.
“We are all grateful to them for what they have done and I wish them both the very best for the future,” he said.
