Gratten shines light on politics

ONE of Australia’s most respected political journalists Ms Michelle Grattan AO will present this year’s Annual Earle Page College Politics Lecture at the University of New England on Wednesday 17 July.
Ms Grattan’s speech will focus on the impact of Australia’s hung parliament.
Ms Grattan has been a member of the Canberra parliamentary press gallery for more than 40 years, during which time she has covered all the significant stories in Australian politics.
As a former editor of The Canberra Times, Michelle Grattan was also the first female editor of an Australian daily newspaper. She has been with the Australian Financial Review, The Sydney Morning Herald and Political Editor of The Age since 2004.
Ms Grattan currently has a dual role with an academic position at the University of Canberra and as Associate Editor (Politics) and Chief Political Correspondent at The Conversation.
She is the author, co-author and editor of several books and was made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2004 for her long and distinguished service to Australian journalism.
“The Annual Politics Lecture is a significant event for UNE, Armidale and the region,” Dr Amanda Kennedy, Academic Master of Earle Page College said.
“The series aims to provide Earle Page residents, guests and members of the public with a diverse range of political opinions on significant public issues.”
“Each year, Earle Page College invites a prominent political figure to speak at its Annual Politics Dinner. Previous speakers have included Julia Gillard, Tony Abbott, Bob Brown and Joe Hockey.”
The lecture will commence at 8.30pm sharp in the Earle Page College Dining Hall and everyone is welcome to attend.
A $5 donation on the night to the Earle Page College Charity Coast Run appeal in aid of the Children’s Medical Research Institute would be appreciated. For more information about the event, ring the college on (02) 6773 5300 or e-mail epc@une.edu.au.
