ALISON Lewis has taken over as president of the Kingscliff Lions Club this week as the organisation heads into its 55th year celebrations.
The group held its 55th changeover dinner at Cudgen Leagues Club late last week with 80 Lions, guests and dignitaries attending.
During her final speech as president, outgoing head Jan O’Grady said the club had donated more than $23,000 to local and Lions charities during the year thanks to funds raised at the Beachside Markets and the Saturday pub raffles.
She also commended the club and the Kingscliff Fire Service for their co-operation in making the local Smoke Alarm Safety Program (SASP) available.
Jan explained the program is designed to provide smoke alarms and batteries to the aged and needy of the community.
In her final act as president Jan presented several awards to members, including life memberships, a Melvin Jones Fellowship and a J.D. Richardson award.
Incoming president Alison Lewis told the gathering she was looking forward to her year at the helm of the club, an experience she had not had before.
She said she hoped to bring some new ideas to her year as president and to see the activities within the local community continue successfully.
