Kingscliff’s Cath Grant will be watching the new PJ Hogan movie Mental special interest in the next few weeks.
You see Kath will be making her movie debut in the flick well kind of.
Her paintings “Sojurn” and “Times Square” are featuring in the movie according to the talented Kingscliff artist.
“I believe they feature a lot in the hospital scenes,” she said.
According to Cath the two paintings were on display at the Sheoak Shack at Fingal when they caught the eye of the movie makers and were leased for the picture. A large amount of the movie, which Tweed-born director PJ Hogan as described as biographical, was shot here on the Tweed.
The paintings were recently part of her exhibition “Fundamental”.
“I specifically booked a gallery for the month of June, as the movie was due for release in Hollywood at the end of June,” she said.
“The exhibition “Fundamental” incorporates both the title of the PJ Hogan movie as well as the word “fun” which is sorely needed in this day and age.”
She said there were no hard or fast rules for her when it came to creativity.
“I often apply paint with a toothpick having already dipped it in two colours,” Cath explained.
“Often those two colours, once on canvas, have a marbled effect. This is when I know the magic is real.
“There are no preliminary drawings whatsoever, with each particular painting. It involves a good deal of patience to layer the canvas, meticulously and methodically with colours also seen in rainbows.”
She said her paintings are much like her life.
“The contents of my life have been so complex and multi-faceted , like zig-zagging between the sublime and the ridiculous,” she said.
“I paint in a very similar fashion. I am the chaos theory in action when I pick up a paintbrush. Blessed with a spirit of adventure, I set forth to colour my canvas. Paint for me, is an unbridled stallion, that takes me across an infinite landscape, into places that ignite my senses in every way, shape and form.”
