A ‘high tea’ fundraising event is being hosted by the Uralla Branch of the NSW CWA (Country Women’s Association) at the Uralla Shire Library on Sunday, October 9. There will be some people dressing up for the occasion.
Branch member, Karen Dusting, said that the event will be in aid of Bundarra artist, Bobbette Kellett’s art exhibition opening in the Uralla Library. The opening will be conducted by Member for Northern Tablelands, Richard Torbay at 2pm.
“We will also be raising money for prostate cancer research,” she said. “We decided that a ‘high tea’ was befitting Bobbette’s artistic style.”
Mrs Kellett’s paintings are predominantly water colours in a high French art deco style. The exhibition will feature 1920s style portraits and richly coloured images of a religious and secular nature. Bobbette Kellett artworks have found their way to galleries and private buyers in such destinations as the UK, South America, Malta and Japan.
Bobbette has kindly offered one of her paintings and a drawing as raffle prizes.
The CWA girls will do cucumber sandwiches, tea, scones and cake.
The Bundarra artist has described the support that she is receiving from the Uralla CWA as “utterly fantastic”.
“The ladies of the CWA have always been innovative and supportive of their communities,” she said.
“In turn, I was keen to support their fundraising. Prostate cancer does not discriminate. Everyone in Australia, in some way, will come into contact with this disease.
“Uralla has a wonderful library, which has an excellent exhibition space,” Mrs Kellett said. “My exhibition will be on at the library for six weeks, so there will be plenty of time for the community to come in and check out a local artist’s work.”
Anyone interested in coming along to this ‘high tea’ should RSVP to the Uralla CWA Branch Secretary, Val James: 6778 3107.
