Group formed to fight headquarters decision

The Tweed Business and Residents Focus Group incorporated (TBRFG) was formed late last week to fight against the proposed Tweed Byron Local Area Command headquarters being planned for Kingscliff.
The group was formed by concerned members of the community and the local Tweed and Kingscliff business groups.
Seven people were voted on to the board with Kingscliff business man Paul McMahon taking on the role of President and Tweed Chamber President Rory Curtis, Vice President.
Mr Curtis said by the time the Tweed Coast Weekly hit the letterboxes this week an application for The Land and Environment Court will be lodged and “We will commence the journey to have this over development of the new Tweed Byron Local Area Command in the coastal village of Kingscliff stopped”.
“As an organisation we are not recommending any one alternate site but simply inviting the Minister and his department to take another look all other possibilities in conjunction with the TSC,” he said.
“It’s important to note that the Marine Parade site was never one of the original five short listed sites identified by UGL who was contracted by the NSW Police Dept to find a new home for the Tweed Byron LAC.
“This alone shows that it is an after-thought and totally unsuitable when the organisation who spend tens of  thousands of tax payer dollars researching the area didn’t consider it appropriate.
“Marine Parade is not only the worst possible outcome for the amenity of residents in Kingscliff but the hard working police of the Tweed will be faced with a loss in facilities at the new
station.”
