POLICE from New England Local Area Command raided four houses and arrested a teenage boy last Friday 31 May as they investigate a spate of break and enters.
Between March and May 2013, a number break-ins occured at aged care facilities, chemists and other businesses in the New England area.
Police said that during the break-ins, several safes were allegedly accessed and amounts of cash and prescription medication, including Oxycontin, known as Hillbilly Heroin, stolen.
During the four search warrants conducted at the Armadale homes, police seized cash, tools and clothing.
At a Alexander Street residence, detectives arrested a 17-year-old boy. He was taken to Armidale Police Station for questioning and is expected to be charged with a number of aggravated break and enter offences.
Investigations into the aggravated break and enters are continuing with further arrests expected to be made.
Acting Superintendent Rod Shoesmith said police were working hard to identify and locate those people involved in the break-ins.
“Our net is closing in on those responsible for these break-ins and I expect further arrests to be made,” he said.
“These raids and today’s arrest is testament to the hard work local police are doing to solve crime and make the community safer,” Acting Supt Shoesmith said.
