The Armidale Sub-Branch of the National Serviceman’s Association of Australia is inviting all former national serviceman and ex-service men and women to participate in the tenth anniversary of our sub-branch on Saturday, July 9, 2011. The celebrations will consist of three main functions.
At 10.30am a ceremony will be held at our National Servicemen’s Memorial in Central Park to commemorate the 212 nashos killed on service, the approximately 200 killed in training and car accidents during their military service and all those who have passed away since completing their service. One of the wreaths that will be laid at the dedication of the National Servicemen’s Memorial will consist 212 red poppies one for every nasho killed on active service and will be laid by Mr. Ron Brown State President of the National Serviceman’s Association of Australia NSW State Branch.
At 11am a parade will form up in Faulkner Street opposite Central Park, under the command of Mr Ian Twemlow who is a well-known RSL (and legendary) figure at military functions, particularly on ANZAC Day.
The parade will involve restored military vehicles (courtesy of Mr Bill Western and Mr Rick Hamparsum), Armidale City Band, marchers (consisting of national servicemen, ex-service men and women and former army reserve) and a contingent of mounted Light Horse. The parade will move down Faulkner St for three blocks and will be dismissed in Faulkner St opposite Cutis Park.
A luncheon will be held at the Armidale Ex-Services Memorial Club at 12.30pm. Our guest speaker will be Colonel Rod Davis, former Commanding Officer of 12/16 HRL. A power-point display of approximately 130 still photos, covering all of our activities conducted during our first 10 years, will be showing during the celebrations. A number of National Serviceman’ sub-branches have been invited to join us in our activities.
Anyone who would like to participate in the march and/or the luncheon and requires any further details can contact our secretary Bob Tonnet on 6772 9194
