Little school with bright new future

St Anthony’s Primary School is looking forward to a bright new future after having its $2,296,180 refurbishment officially opened last week.Students, teachers, parents, local dignitaries and identities all watched on as Federal member for Richmond Justine Elliott officially dedicated the school improvements. The face-lift, part of the Federal Government’s Building the Education Revolution scheme, literally turned the school, if not upside down at least back to front. Thanks to the makeover, the little Kingscliff Parish school is now accessed off Boomerang and not the increasingly busy Pearl Street. The makeover brought the school a new administration block and teachers’ staffroom, several new classrooms and a new library. Justine Elliott, who has apersonal link to the school with her children both students, congrat-ulated St Anthony’s Primary School on their new facilities and spoke of the benefit to both the school and local community.“These projects provide valuable learning opportunities for our children and supported the employment of many local workers. This is what we strived to achieve – this is the essence of the Economic Stimulus Plan,” Justine said.“The BER has given schools like St Anthony’s Primary School the resources they need to help ensure that a quality education can continue to be provided by our hardworking teachers in our local schools,” said Justine.

“It has been fantastic to see the Principal, Teachers, Parents, and Tradespeople working together to deliver these important projects for our children. With the completion of these projects teachers and students can now make use of the 21st century facilities they so richly deserve.”
New school principal Lynne Pull, who arrived at the school this year, said she had missed all the major building work.
“I came in at the end and just got to enjoy it,” she joked.
Mrs Pull said the staff and all the student body were enjoying their new surroundings – including the bright new red, yellow and blue bollards that mark the way into the new school carpark.
She thanked everyone involved in making the improvements a reality.
