Field day to tackle weed threat

SERRATED Tussock (Nassella trichotoma) is a highly invasive and unpalatable perennial grass that spreads rapidly through native woodlands and pastures.

New England Weeds Authority is running an on-farm information day next Wednesday 14 August in the Kingstown area.
The field day aims to show local land holders how to identify, manage and control this devastating noxious weed on their property.
This well-managed Serrated Tussock site has been prevented from seeding and will be treated and removed following the field day.
Serrated Tussock is spread through wind borne seed dispersal. Its adaptability, drought tolerance and preference for cool climates, make the New England region ideal for this weed to invade.
Guest speakers at the information day include the New England Weed Authority’s senior weeds officer James Browning, NSW Department Primary Industries invasive species officer Phil Blackmore, and agronomist Matt Foster from Grazag Armidale.
The field day will be held at 2598 Kinsgtown Road, Kingstown – 26km north west of Uralla –
from 10am.
