Popular Book Fair opens this Saturday

With the advent of e-books and the availability of content on the intent, you would think the humble book would be languishing in a corner somewhere, never to be enjoyed and cherished as they once were.
This is definitely not the case for the Rotary Club of Armidale Central, who are again staging their hugely popular 15th Armidale Book Fair which begins this Saturday, May 12 at the Armidale Jockey Club and finishes on Saturday, May 19.
The Book Fair is open from 9am until 5pm every day.
Local Rotarians are urging the community to make the most of the opportunity to grab a bargain book or an armful and see their money go to a good cause or two.
Volunteers with the Rotary Club of Armidale Central worked hard in the lead-up to the huge secondhand book fair.
Ian Garske is the Co-ordinator of the Armidale Book Fair and said the lead-up began almost 12 months ago and they have approximately 70,000 books for sale at the fair.
“We work year-round on the book fair – collecting donations, sorting and so on.
“Books are still extremely popular and, on our opening day, we usually have about 200-odd people lined up at the door to come in, it’s like a David Jones sale!”
Virtually every genre of fiction and non-fiction subject is on offer. From self-help to cook books, literary classics to children’s books, Stephen King to Shakespeare, econometrics to tradecraft, the Rotarians have gathered something for all tastes over the past 12 months.
