Strong crowds of prospective students and parents from throughout the local region and as far as South Australia and Queensland flocked to the University of New England for its annual Open Days on Friday and Saturday. The main day was on Friday, with an official welcome from UNE Vice-Chancellor Professor Jim Barber and Chancellor, Dr Richard Torbay.
There were fun giveaways, activities and live music, as well as guided and self-guided tours, which showcased the campus and its learning, living and recreation facilities.
In Lazenby Hall, the many disciplines of UNE were displayed. Academics were on hand to discuss courses and their requirements.
For many students at the Open Day, the relaxed, smaller, more personal feel of the UNE campus was even more appealing than the higher cost of attending metropolitan universities.
UNE Marketing Manager, Sarah Wilson, said it was a great day, aided by beautiful autumn weather. She said that info sessions in lecture theatres further exposed visitors to the university experience.
