Over 55s project Serene Living is about to become a reality, with building beginning on site this week.
Award winning Gold Coast builders Glenzeil took possession of the site on Monday, September 5 and the first concrete has already been poured.
The state of the art complex is set to provide the Tweed with a shot of confidence. It is the first major project in the Tweed Heads CBD since the completion of Tweed Central in 2009.
Serene Living will directly employ more than 100 people over the next 11 months. Apart from the economic benefits of the actual construction, there are expected to be ancillary benefits to the local economy totalling over $20.0M. Local businesses set to benefit from Serene Living and a resurgent Tweed economy include building supplies companies, landscaping, retirement orientated services, real estate agents, solicitors, local restaurants and shops, Tweed Heads Bowls Club and more. The flow-on effects of such a major project are sure to be enjoyed by the whole region.
Located a stone’s throw from the Tweed Heads CBD, more than three quarters of the luxury apartments have been sold in the Serene Living development, making it the fastest selling Over 55s in Australia. Serene Living director Ben Fuller attributes this to an undersupply of suitable apartments for baby boomers in the Tweed region. “Serene Living has made a mark in the local market, with 70 per cent of the apartments already sold. It shows that Tweed was crying out for a development like this,” he said.
Glenzeil project manager Paul Garland brings impeccable skills to the project. He said part of the appeal was the opportunity to create a development that will bring enormous social and economic benefits to the region.
“We are very excited to be building the Serene Living project. It will provide jobs for over 100 locals, plus many more who will be employed indirectly through local companies involved. I’ve witnessed the effect that a development the size of Serene has on the local economy and I think that Tweed can look forward to a buoyant year ahead,” Paul said.
Glenzeil was established in 1990 and is a well known and respected building company that has carried out substantial works in both Queensland and New South Wales. Iconic projects include the $48 million Nirvana in Kirra; $36 million Robina Health Precinct; the $110m commercial precinct The Rocket; Southern Cross University next to the Coolangatta airport; and the $45 million Jupiters Casino refurbishment.
Serene Living director Ben Fuller said, with the help of Glenzeil, Serene would set the benchmark for retirees looking for the ideal lifestyle in a central location with an array of quality facilities. “Serene Living is meeting demand for a growing Tweed Over 5’s market,” he said.
“We identified a market in retirees who want to live in town, close to all amenities,” Ben said. “The traditional retiree model has been located out of town and away from life’s conveniences, whereas Greenbank in Tweed Heads is a great place to live, with an unsurpassed lifestyle which suits residents perfectly and provides easy living close to shopping centres, entertainment and sophisticated dining precincts.”
The Over 55s resort-style project comprises 77 spacious apartments with one bedroom plus study (which can double as a second bedroom), two- and three-bedroom ensuite apartments, two bathrooms, and generous balcony spaces.
Serene Living sales manager Amber Holmes said the Over 55s resort-style development will reinvigorate the Tweed CBD, promoting an increase in business activity across the board.
“The Tweed CBD is beginning to see a revitalisation. With the new Jack Evans Boat Harbour development leading the way and Serene Living hot on its heels, Tweed Heads is set to make a mark over the coming years,” she said.
The up-market project will offer more than 50 services and facilities, including a rooftop garden, luxurious cinema, library, residents’ club car, heated pool and spa, gymnasium, games room and innovative smart home wiring technology, ensuring the safety and security of residents.
The building site is located on the corner of Florence St and Florence Place, Tweed Heads. The new display office is located across from the building site, next to the greens of the Tweed Bowls Club and is open from 10am-4pm, Monday to Saturday (closed Sunday).
