The Yellow Room jigsaw fundraiser pieces still available

Just a month after its launch, the Friends of NERAM fundraiser jigsaw puzzle for the purchase of Margaret Olley’s The Yellow Room Triptych is selling fast and exceeding all expectations.
“The jigsaw puzzle appeal is going very well and there are only one third of the 100 pieces left to sell, with most pieces in the $100 — $200 category so, if you have been meaning to get along to see the original work and to participate in the fundraiser, now would be a good time to go!” said FON Chair, Lynne Walker.
“The local community, including garden, coffee and book clubs, has embraced the concept wholeheartedly as have various visitors to the gallery from as far afield as WA, Tasmania, Victoria and Canberra.
“A number of local businesses have also bought pieces relevant to their line of business.”
After the idea was first floated by FON and Packsaddlers, a large poster-sized reproduction of the triptych was made and mounted by local company AOK signs.
Then long-time supporter of NERAM, David Windeyer, cut up the pieces in consultation with FON Richard Bird and Packsaddle Co-Chair Glenda Kupczyk-Romanczuk. He did so by making a jigsaw cutter from two old sewing machines and the pieces were numbered one to 100.
Once participants donate money for their favourite piece, they are given another reproduction of that piece to take to their home or business. If they wish, they can have their piece framed by Gallery 126 for a special price or they can have it made into a fridge magnet or a brooch by a local jeweller, also for a very reasonable price.
“In the Yellow Room, there is no single flat area of yellow,” said Packsaddle Co-Chair Glenda Kupczyk-Romanczuk.
“The walls are not merely there as uniform background to the posters and the furniture, as they might be in a house.
“In the brush strokes of Olley, they have a life of their own — sometimes, in the shadow, they are green or brown; sometimes they are almost orange and sometimes, in the bright light opposite a window, they bleach to almost cream.
“If you decide to make a donation in this way, you will see that each piece of yellow wall reveals itself as a wonderful abstract.
“What a fun reminder of supporting a good cause to have in a frame, a brooch or on a fridge magnet!”
If you are interested in ‘owning’ a piece of the puzzle, go into NERAM and pick out your piece, and also view the original of the artwork which is taking the local community by storm.
