Lining up for the relay

Teams across the Tweed from all walks of life and different businesses are hard at work raising money and preparing for the second annual Tweed Relay for Life to be held at its brand new venue at Cudgen Leagues Club on March 23 and 24.

Twenty-three teams have already entered the NSW Cancer Council event, with nominations being taken right up until the day.

Member for Richmond Justine Elliot, who will head up Team Labor on the night, said it was an important cause for everyone in the Valley and she urged others to come along and get into the spirit.

“Just about everybody’s lives and those of their friends and family are touched by cancer,” she said.

“It is really important to get involved.”

Team Labor and organising committee member Jenni Maundrell said the event would be inspirational as well as a lot of fun.

Ms Maundrell, wife of Tweed Deputy Mayor Michael Armstrong, said it was “really good to see” so many different teams getting involved in the event.

The aim is to raise $80,000 – with the total currently sitting just under $18,000.

The event will start with a survivors’ walk at 3pm
and will include a children’s
tent as well as lots of fun activities throughout the evening to keep the teams entertained.

If you are interested in
taking part – registration is $20 per person. For further information, contact organiser Emily Pettitt on Telephone: (02) 6627 0300, Email: emilyp@nswcc.org.au.
