The appropriately titled theme ‘SLEX in the City’ was announced earlier this month at the official launch for SLEX 2011 at the Armidale Town Hall.
This year’s Sustainable Living Expo (SLEX) will focus on urban sustainability, which links environmental issues relating to the direct footprint of urban lifestyles, business, community services and the building environment, with the wider environmental context through systems including food, energy and transport.
Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay officially launched SLEX for 2011 and acknowledged the enthusiasm and commitment that the Armidale community put towards the annual SLEX event.
“To see so much enthusiasm still in the room after five years of the expo is fantastic,” said Mr Torbay.
“Armidale and this region have been leaders and to see that momentum continue to grow is fantastic news.
“There is a genuine passion here in Armidale for sustainability and sustainable practices and it is not an event, it is a belief that people are inspired to be part of every day and it manifests itself in this expo on the back of everyday believing, contributing and acknowledging sustainable practices.
“We are leaders in this area and are continuing to show that every year.”
The launch announced exciting details about this year’s event, which is taking place on October 21-23. This year Starfish Enterprises Network is partnering with SLEX to organise a positive, creative and hands-on leadership and learning opportunity at EdFest ’11 that excites and empowers young people to create a sustainable world.
A range of workshops, activities and events will schedule throughout SLEX 2011 to appeal to the needs of a range of different age groups and levels of interest, presented by schools and peers, as well as educational professionals.
Other special guests who will be making an appearance over the SLEX weekend are Costa Georgiadis, who everyone remembers from last year’s attendance, Ranger Stacey from the TV show “Totally Wild” and Cameron Williams who is a world known potter.
