Armidale’s Under 12 rep cricket team are edging closer to a spot in the final of the Northern Inland representative cricket comp, after defeating New England in a low-scoring match on Sunday. Joe Gordon led the way, claiming three early wickets, top scoring with the bat, and taking a spectacular high one-handed catch to end the match in style.
New England Under 12s could only manage a score of 7/29 after their first 20 overs, with Kieran Dennis (3/8), Joe Gordon (3/10) and Tao Grieves (2/8) all making an impact with the ball. In reply, however, Armidale also found the batting trying, finishing at 8/46 before the lunch break. In a low-scoring tense match, Armidale managed to finish things off after lunch, claiming the final three New England wickets without needing to bat again.
In other games, Armi-dale’s Under 16s struggled on a sticky wicket to reach 120, with Will Archer (24) top scoring. The wicket was drying after lunch, to help New England reach Armidale’s total with five wickets in hand.
The Armidale Under 14s also struggled with the wicket early and lost to an undefeated New England side, who reached Armidale’s modest score without losing a wicket of their own.
The three junior rep teams will play again in two weeks in their final games of the season, against Narrabri.
