Last week students from Tweed Heads South Primary School showed volunteers from On Track their green-thumbs and worked together in the Community Garden.
On Track Community Programs provide a range of community based support services for people who have a disability or additional needs.
The aim of the school’s garden is to strengthen community partnerships between the school, individuals and groups within the wider community.
The co-ordinating teacher at Tweed Heads South, Miss Purkiss, said the Community Garden is going from strength to strength and she is delighted with the way students and community members are working together.
Volunteers from Club Banora Garden Club help out in the garden every Wednesday and the Gold Coast Permaculture Group undertake fun, engaging, hands-on workshops with the students every month. Parents and carers are also involved in the whole-school garden initiative. There are often parents who come in and assist in the garden either before school, during the lunch breaks or after school.
Tweed Heads South Primary has also had an incredible amount of support from local business. The school has been given a generous donation from Bunnings in South Tweed Heads.
If you would like to donate to the garden project or if you have a green thumb and would like to help out, please contact Miss Fallon Purkiss via email fallon.purkiss1@det.nsw.edu.au or phone on 07 5524 3408.
