Single Mums from throughout the Northern Rivers area are to be treated to another special day, courtesy of local single mum Katie Thompson.
A High Tea and Jazz Afternoon will be held at 24 Endeavour Close, Ballina on Saturday, July 23 from 2-4pm – and it’s free for all single Mums.
The special afternoon will feature entertainment by renowned local jazz artist Sharny Russell as well as a high tea ‘fit for a Queen’. ‘High tea’ is an elegant and indulgent afternoon tea. This one will include a huge range of home-baked treats, fine china and waiters dressed in formal attire. Free child care will also be available for the afternoon.
Katie, who has a passion to support and encourage other single Mums, said single Mums were often under a lot of pressure and can feel lonely and disconnected.
“We want single Mums to know that we understand some of the pressures they face and make them feel special and loved,” Katie said.
“The event will be hosted by C3 Church Ballina and some of their members. However, the high tea and jazz afternoon is not a religious event and is open to all local single Mums no matter what their beliefs or stage of mothering. Please come along and have a great afternoon.
“I would like to thank C3 Church for the kind use of their venue and the church members who will be serving the high tea on the day.”
Sharny Russell is an award-winning jazz musician from Brunswick Heads who lectures at the Conservatorium of Music in Lismore and at the QLD Conservatorium of Music. She specialises in vocals and piano and writes and arranges all her own music. She is known nationally and internationally for her warm and sophisticated sound and is a leading exponent of ‘scat singing’.
