Armidale Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) held a successful Open Day on Saturday, May 5 during Fire Prevention Week from April 28 to May 5.
Armidale Fire Station on Barney Street welcomed a large number of members from the Armidale community who took the opportunity to visit the station to meet local fire fighters, tour the station, look over the trucks and receive important fire safety information which included how to properly install and test smoke alarms and what to do in case of an emergency. The kids had a blast climbing all over the fire trucks and spraying water from the fire hose while the local firies cooked a sausage sizzle and gave out fire safety information packs.
Fire Prevention Week highlighted the numerous household fire dangers that can occur leading into winter, which is traditionally FRNSW’s busiest time of year, as residents switch on heating and drying devices. Educating the community in fire prevention is critical to successfully reducing the number of home fire related injuries and fatalities that occur each year. FRNSW Fire Prevention Week and Open Day was a wonderful opportunity to do just that. Armidale Fire Brigade would like to thank those members of the community who joined them at the station on Saturday and made the day a success and are hoping for an even bigger turnout next year.
