Local Telstra technician Cameron Ross and his team are busy connecting Armidale residents to Telstra’s services on the National Broadband Network (NBN).
Ross, a telecommunic-ations veteran with 31 years’ experience in the industry, has been living and working in Armidale since 1985 where he started work in the Telstra Exchange before moving into the field.
“I’ve seen a lot of changes in telecommunications over the past three decades and I’ve worked on a variety of technologies throughout my career with Telstra,” he said.
“The new fibre service will transform Armidale homes and the way residents use telecommunications in their home.
“The increase in download and upload speeds and the ability to perform multiple online tasks simultaneously will change the way Armidale residents connect with the world.”
Ross said the roll-out of fibre in Armidale was new and exciting for locals and the Telstra team was enjoying connecting customers to the superfast communications highway.
“The team has connected more than 75 people in Armidale to trials of Telstra services on the NBN during the past six months, so we know what to expect, and what people need,” he said.
Ross said every home is different. Once NBN Co has connected the fibre to the customer’s premises, Telstra will complete the installation with a follow-up appointment where one of his team will attend to connect the customer’s Telstra services to the NBN.
“We are there to get the job done quickly and efficiently and with little disruption, and in most cases the phone line will be working throughout the installation period,” he said.
“People often have many devices to connect, and aren’t technical, or just don’t have the time to do it themselves. So having one of us come to their home to do a professional installation is a big plus,” Cameron said.
