Christmas began early in Armidale with the local launch of Unitingcare’s Operation Santa last Thursday. Representitives from Target, the Uniting Church and Armidale Family Support combined to launch the 2011 Appeal.
This year shoppers will have the chance to show their genersosity at Christmas and bring a little Christmas joy to those unable to celebrate with Christmas gifts.
“We are delighted to partner with the Uniting Church and Target, and we will be giving the presents to families in need in the local community,” said Manager of Armidale Family Support, Rachel Wood.
“For the past 20 years we’ve been asking people, in the spirit of Christmas, to give an extra present to those in our community who are less fortunate,” said Ms Susan McMichael, local coordinator.
“We are encouraging people to buy presents early this year to ensure there is time for distribution by Armidale Family Support to residents of Armidale and outlying areas. Presents will need to be placed under the Target, Armidale tree by Monday, December 12.”
How can people help? Spot the large Operation Santa tree at the Armdidale Target store, take a gift tag from the tree and buy a gift for someone in need. Gift cards purchased from Target are appreciated by the needy in our community.
