LONG-standing Armidale Dumaresq councillor and deputy mayor Herman Beyersdorf has announced that he will stand for pre-selection for Country Labor at the upcoming by-election in the seat of Northern Tablelands.
“I think that this by-election is a watershed in many ways for the Northern Tablelands, as we enter the post-independent age with the resignation of the previous independent member,” Mr Beyersdorf said.
“It should not be presumed that the seat will automatically default back to the Nationals.
“With no sitting member, the seat is wide open, and I was concerned that the voters should have the choice of a strong and committed Country Labor candidate.”
Mr Beyersdorf said that after the defeat of the NSW State Labor Government in 2011, the by-election should also be seen as the beginning of a resurgence of Labor values and principles in country NSW.
“I believe that as a councillor of Armidale Dumaresq Council, and in other roles over the last 20 years or so, including a member of the University Of New England Council, and on the Regional Development Australia Northern Inland board, I have always shown honesty and integrity in all my public activities,” Mr Beyersdorf said.
“I have lived in the Northern Tablelands area for the greater part of my life, I feel I am well able to represent the aspirations and concerns of residents if elected.”
Mr Beyersdorf said he would await the outcome of the pre-election process, and if successful, looks forward to the challenge of being a candidate for the seat of Northern Tablelands.
