Hitting the right note

PLC Old Girl and Opera Singer, Lexi Hutton mentoring students last week.

The corridors of PLC Armidale were resonating with arias last week, when Old Girl and renowned Opera Singer, Lexi Hutton popped in to mentor the PLC Elective Music classes.
Lexi, who is currently located in London, was on a brief visit home to Bingara, and kindly fitted in a visit to her old school to tutor the enthusiastic and appreciative students.
After performing a stunning piece from the Opera La Boheme, Lexi critiqued a number of students, providing them with both technical singing tips and life tips generally.
After completing her HSC at PLC, she completed a Bachelor of Music (Performance) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and then travelled to London where she undertook further musical studies at the Royal College of Music in London and graduated with a Masters of Music (with Distinction).
She will no sooner arrive back in London next month, before relocating her already stellar career to Berlin, where she will take up a 12-month scholarship to sing with the famous Deutsche Opera.
She has always remembered the advice of her first opera teacher in Sydney, who said: “Sing with the voice you’ve got and you’ll end up with the voice you want.” Lexi has never forgotten that advice.
While in Australia, she has also auditioned with Opera Australia, where she has just been advised that an offer awaits.
Lexi’s parting words of advice for the girls were: “The harder you work, the luckier you get!”
