New England Regional Art Museum invites you to their next Gala Opening at 6pm this Friday, August 19. It is a very busy month at NERAM, with six new exciting exhibitions opening on Friday. Seven artists from near and far are exhibiting their works, complemented by an exhibition of dynamic paintings selected from the permanent collections.
In the East Gallery, renowned watercolourist and winner of the Wynne Competition, John Caldwell, works directly in his chosen landscape, whether it is Antarctica, the granite country of NSW, the Murray River or his local Blue Mountains region. James Rogers’ abstract sculptures, constructed of welded, recycled steel are given new life in surprisingly fluid forms and often retain a beautiful patina acquired during past lives.
From Tamworth Regional Gallery, Ross Laurie and David McBride explore the discourse between artists living in different regional areas.
Each artist presents a body of work unrelated to a particular theme, but highlighting the impact differing environments can have on our sense of place and how we as individuals respond.
The Howard Hinton Collection, in sheer breadth of its cover of Australian art from the 1880s to the 1940s, is the only collection of its kind in regional Australia. Iconic: Works from the Hinton Collection brings together some of the iconic works in this collection by artists including Streeton, Gruner, Preston, Lindsay, Heysen, Long and Dobell.
Peter Booth’s viscous and glistening black painting “Untitled” is the highlight of the exhibition Black: From the Permanent Collections. This exhibition focuses on minimalist abstract work in the Coventry and NERAM Collections.
Two of our selling exhibitions feature in the Dulce Lindsay Gallery and the Dobell Gallery.
Glint features two artists from Armidale, Lin Quaife and Michelle Schouten. Their exhibition explores the artists’ fascination with light and colour, Lin working on paper and Michelle with glass.
Mike Riley’s exhibition evokes an endless landscape by creating a pattern from the local bush and rocky country he knows so well. Mike prefers to paint landscapes from an aerial perspective that give his work a highly distinctive appearance.
With so much to offer, the Gala Opening is sure to have something that will challenge, excite and please you.
Everyone is invited so don’t miss out on this exciting event.
