Armidale High School’s Wyndham “guinea pigs” held another successful reunion over the long weekend, with ex-students travelling from interstate and overseas to meet up with classmates who have stayed in and around Armidale.
Highlights of the reunion included informal gatherings at the Royal Hotel and Ex-Services Club, a dinner at the Bowling Club and a tour and barbecue at Armidale High School on Sunday. Teachers Ray Burton, Albert Wynter, Bill Thompson and Barry and Jean Squire were warmly welcomed at the reunion dinner and remembered the class of 62 as one of the best groups that they have ever worked with. The musicians in the group did not disappoint either, with some classic 60s rock. An impromptu bush band also provided some lively music for ageing feet.
On Sunday, over 80 ex-students and partners gathered at the newly restored gates to Armidale High School to begin their tour of the school. The restoration of the RB White Memorial Gates and the repainting of the sign for the Memorial Oval was the gift given to the school by the class of 62-67, with committee members Ken Peter and Geoff Walsh heavily involved in sourcing suppliers and skilled tradesmen as well as providing labour as the gates were restored. A relaxed barbecue and lots of reminiscing brought a very successful reunion to a close.
