Unseasonal big freeze blankets Guyra

Guyra was covered in a thick layer of snow.
Snowmen made a welcome return to Guyra on Friday, with a thick layer of snow blanketing the town and surrounding farmland, with snow also falling heavily in Glen Innes. Sleet fell in Armidale, Uralla and Walcha, with light dustings on higher ground.
A cold southerly airstream, which made its way across eastern Australia from Wednesday, caused the big freeze, with temperatures heading south across much of regional Australia and widespread snowfalls in higher altitudes.
Guyra residents woke to a winter wonderland, with heavy snow covering cars, houses and tree branches and the opportunity to make a snowman or two; and a venture out into the chilly conditions was far too enticing.
Snow was last recorded during October in the Northern Tablelands in 2008 and, with this unseasonal dumping, Guyra was the place to be on Friday, with people coming from across the region to see the snow.
