Council commits to more online forums

An online public forum for the Kingscliff Central Park concept plans was launched earlier this week, as Council gave a commitment to stage further online forums for key issues.
The Central Park forum, at www.yoursaytweed.com.au/kingscliffpark, is part of a website Council has created to host a series of online forums in 2011 and early 2012.
“Council will work with online engagement specialist Bang The Table to stage several online forums, to make it easy for community members to participate in discussions about Council projects and issues,” the Mayor of Tweed, Councillor Kevin Skinner, said.
“The forums at www.yoursaytweed.com.au will be an excellent way for Council to engage the community on a number of topics. They enable individuals and groups to find out about an issue, follow the discussions and contribute their opinions at a time and place that suits them.
“They are like public meetings that run 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the whole consultation period. The success of Council’s first online forum, for the Community Strategic Plan, was evidence of their value as a tool for public consultation.”
Council’s Director of Engineering and Operations, Patrick Knight, urged residents to participate in the Kingscliff Central Park forum, which will continue until the public exhibition period ends on April 12.
“Central Park will become a valuable new community hub in Kingscliff, so it’s vital that residents and local business have plenty of input to the final design,” Mr Knight said.
“Council will also stage a community information session this Saturday, March 19, at the NSW Surf Life Saving Championships. The senior championships should be a focal point in the Kingscliff community this weekend and offer an excellent opportunity to get the message out about the Central Park.
“Residents will be able to visit Council’s information stall, in Lions Park near the Cudgen Headland Surf Life Saving Club, any time between 10am and 2pm to find out more about Central Park and how they can have their say.”
Kingscliff Central Park is part of a three-step process for the foreshore between Cudgen Headland Surf Life Saving Club and the Kingscliff Beach Bowls Club, to restore the beach and dunes, redevelop the Kingscliff Beach Holiday Park and create the Central Park.
It is a major feature of the Kingscliff Foreshore Master Plan, which was adopted by Council in July 2007 to establish a vision for future foreshore upgrades.
Information about Kingscliff Central Park and the Foreshore Master Plan can also be viewed at the On Exhibition page of Council’s website www.tweed.nsw.gov.au.
Fact sheets on the Central Park and master plan are also available at Council’s offices at Tweed Heads and Murwillumbah and libraries at Kingscliff, Tweed Heads and Murwillumbah.
Residents and organisations can also have their say on Kingscliff Central Park by lodging a written submission addressed to the General Manager, PO Box 816, Murwillumbah 2484.
